It is summer! The pool
is warm the lake is
warm and it is a great
time to be a swimmer.
We are in the open water season of our swim year and we are the only area masters program that has an organized open water swim. If you have not done these you really are missing out.
The lake swims are really fun and challenging, the skills you use in open water are very different than the pool and its fun to switch things up and use the different skills. The lake has no walls so it is straight swimming, the elements are something to contend with at times, ( waves, wind, fish, bottom growth,). For the long swims, you need to find a rhythm and just getting comfortable with that. Not having a coach dictate a workout allows you to really JUST SWIM.
The lake is really a fun change. We are there every Saturday, There are jet skis to check on everyone so it is safe, the boats in the area are only able to to drive 5 miles an hour so it is really set up for swimmers right now.
We ask that you wear a bright cap and a big smile. If it is your first time or you question ability, you might want to wear fins or kick board anything to make it comfortable. Try to have a partner and talk to them when you feel nervous. Try it at least once. It is safe, different and a great way to experience nature. Have fun!!!

Thank You Karen!!!
A BIG THANK YOU.. to Karen Salatti for all her hard work to put together an amazing River Cats Event for over 30 RAMS swimmers, friends, and families! Not only did Karen coordinate the date and the tickets, she catered an incredible tailgate feast of tri-tip, beans, and desserts that kept everyone full for the next 3 days! The River Cats won the game which was immediately followed by Fireworks!! We could not have asked for a better event!
Thanks, Karen!!
RAMS Accomplishments
Congratulations to Lee McKinley who finished this year’s Western States 100 Mile Run in 20 hours, 40 minutes! When Lee lost his “pacer” at Mile 18, he knew he was in for a long, lonely run... But thanks to RAMS teammate, Jane Linder, he received a welcome sight at Mile 97 at
1:00 AM (in the morning), when he saw Jane and her family waiting for him... When Lee is recovered, we expect to hear more about his experience– for now, he is still in recovery mode, but good to see him back at the pool!!!
And not to be outdone, Josh Cazadd finished his first marathon last month at the San Diego Marathon. Congratulations Josh!
And in Water Polo news– Trisha Sepulvado and Terri Maginnis travelled to San Diego for the USA Water Polo Nationals Tournament. Terri played on the Women’s 50+ team which came in 1st place, while Trisha played in a very tough Women’s 40+ division, and finished 4th overall. If anyone is interested– we have been playing in West Sacramento Sunday mornings 10-12.. It is a lot of fun!
REMINDER: If you are leaving the team, please notify the RAMS Treasurer to stop your auto-withdrawal no later than the 25th of the month prior to your leaving. Our policy states that we will not offer refunds in most situations. Please let us know in advance.
