Where are the workouts held?
All practices are held at Sierra College Aquatics Center in Rocklin
California, in the Sacramento area. A
map of the general area shows where the campus is located and a
campus map provides more help in finding the pool. The
college charges $1 per day for parking and machines in the lots take dollar
bills or quarters (best to have both). You may purchase a semester parking
permit from the Sierra College security office for $40. (Campus police
will issue tickets at any time without a valid permit).
When are the workouts?
Workouts are held Monday through Friday at 5:30 AM–7:00 AM, 12:00 Noon-1:30
PM, and 7:00 PM-8:30 PM, and on Saturday from 8:00 AM–9:00 AM (7:00AM when at
Folsom Lake).
Who may swim?
Current members of United States Masters Swimming (USMS). Membership in USMS
is required, since RAMS has liability insurance only if
all
swimmers are members. Proof of USMS registration or filling out a form and
paying for registration must be provided to the coach before a swimmer may enter
the water.
How do I join?
Clicking on the how do I join? button provides the information you will
need to become a RAMS member.
Are out of town visitors welcome?
Yes, we welcome out of town visitors, however, you must be a USMS member and
present your USMS membership card to the coach. The fee is $10
per swim.
What is the pool like?
Sierra College has two pools, either of which (or both) may be used
depending on availability and conditions. Both are heated outdoor 25 yard
pools.
What kind of a workout is provided?
The coaching staff provides structured workout routines and stroke
correction, based on the seasonal objective and the needs of the swimmer.
Workouts are designed to take an hour to an hour and a half.
How crowded is the pool?
The number of swimmers per lane varies considerably, depending on the season,
time of day, and day of the week. In general you can expect three or less
per lane, with the evenings having the fewest swimmers.
Besides swimming in the pool, is dryland or other training provided?
Weight training and dryland exercises have been provided in the past, but
are not currently being offered. Check with the coaches concerning future
activities.
In the summer months, open water swim practice may be provided in Folsom Lake, at the discretion of the coaching staff.
